We have a lime!

Each week we get an email telling us about the baby's developmental growth. They always compare the baby's size to a piece of fruit, for that week we have been calling the baby by that name. We started with a blue berry and now we have a lime!

The most dramatic development this week: Reflexes. The baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, the toes will curl, his/her eye muscles will clench, and the mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you push on my abdomen, my baby will squirm in response, although I can't feel it. The intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into the abdominal cavity about now, and the kidneys will begin excreting urine into the bladder. From crown to rump, our baby-to-be is just over two inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.
