When we asked Ella what type of Birthday Party she wanted she would reply with "I want to go to the park." Um, poor girl, your Birthday is in January...brr! So we kept asking her and her next reply was, "I want to swim in my dinosaur pool," again...brr and not going to happen! So we had to get creative. We decided this would be the year we would do family activities for the weekend and skip the big party...oh that was so hard for me to except...I do love a party!
The first Birthday event was to wear her Birthday dress and take treats to "school" to share with her friends.

Next, we took a trip to the new aquarium. She had so much fun she did not want to go home...ever! No really, we were that family with the screaming child not wanting to leave...it was THAT much FUN!
I do have to say, up to the moment of the 3 year old tantrum we had a great time at the aquarium and can't wait to go back when they add new exhibits.
Ella and I looking at shark eggs. She was a little timid putting her hand in the water.
Cooper loving the sting rays.
The plan was to take Ella to the "spa" aka Monkey Doos to have her toes done. She is very into having polish on her nails. Who knew they booked up a few weeks ahead of time, so we made our own spa in the living room.
We made the second set of cupcakes for the big day. This time she requested to help and and she wanted butterflies. So here are the Birthday cupcakes made by the Birthday Girl.
Ella still wanted to spend her birthday at the park, but look it was 21 degrees out. So we decided to open presents and hope it warmed up a bit.
She loves presents and was so excited to open them.
Introducing Dr. Ella Grace Simmonds
Later in the day we did not make it to the park, but we did make it out for some bike riding.
Ella's new Skuut Bike and helmet.
Maryn and Kai came over to join in the fun.
