Michelle has assigned me to a blog post so I will share with you my story of THE BEES.
A few weeks ago I came home and in a tree next to our driveway I saw what I thought was a nest. I was really excited as I was going to show Ella and then we were going to watch for the birds etc. I went to get a closer look and realized that a bunch of bees were flying around my head. That is when I realized that this was not a bird nest but a bees nest! It was huge! My neighbor from across the street was outside and told me that I would have to wait until dusk and then kill them all.
I DIDN'T WANT TO KILL THE BEES!!!
Story to continue below after amazing shots of the bees.
I got on the internet (what did we really do before this?) and started to look for someone to come and take the bees away. Of course all I could find were people and companies willing to come and kill the bees. Do they not understand that we want bees! I don't care about hornets and wasps, but bees come on. So on about page three I found a very short ad that said "bee removal; free; speak English and Russian." So I called and left a message and within 5 minutes a gentleman called and told me he would be at my house within the hour and his services were free. Fantastic! About 45 minutes later a man and his dad showed up. The dad got out of the car and went to look at the bees and starting clapping and saying something in Russian, but I could tell he was happy. As you can see from the picture below the gentleman did not wear what I would think a normal person would collecting bees. I would have been in a full body suit with duct tape making sure no bees could fly in. He just got up next to it (basically touching it) and cut away all of the extra branches around the bees with only long sleeves. He then, with his dads help (after a few attempts with the box closer to the bees) cut the branch off and slowly turned around and stepped down the ladder.
I was taking multiple pictures the entire time.
He finally covered his head! But don't let this fool you, he had already been up there 5-6 times cutting branches away.
I was nervous at this point that it was going to fall or he was. Then the excitement would have been amazing.
You can see this was not small. It was easily the size of a soccer ball
He raises bees is what I ended up getting out of him. He said it started as a hobby and now he does it as an extra income. He was very excited to have these bees and I was excited to give them a good home and to not kill them. This made my day. Excitement abound! Blog by Benji........done.
