Mount Vernon was one of the highlights of our trip! It was on my list of must sees and I'm so glad we went. I grew up in Mount Vernon, Washington so I had to see what my hometown was named after. It was gorgeous and fascinating and such a fun experience. We left early in the morning without our kids...yes!...just the two of us. We did the tour of the house and even got lucky enough to do the National Treasure tour. Our tour guide spent an hour showing and telling us all about the movie being filmed their and we got to go in the basement of the house. I think Benji and I hung on every word that lady said. We loved the history we explored that day and the change of it just being the two of us was ideal. We both said this was one of the best dates we have every been on. Thank you Ashley for entertaining the gaggle of kids we left you! They had a great time going on a picnic, playing at a park and going to a nature preserve that day. They even saw a snake eat a rat. In the eyes of a six your old boy, that is much more exciting than Mount Vernon.

My favorite part was learning about the Ha-ha walls. It is a fence that you can't even see from the house but keeps the animals from bothering you when you are sitting on the porch.
On our tour we also got to see the ice cellar. George Washington loved ice cream so they had to have a place to store ice all year long.
Look at this spider that was on the wall in the cellar. Big!
