Little Critters

My turn...this is Benji.

The week was awesome and so much fun. We also had a bit of added "fun". On Wednesday night we came home from the fireworks and Michelle and the kids were in the bathroom of the cabin and Michelle came running out yelling that something was in the bathtub. I go to look and sure enough a little chipmunk was trapped in the tub, as it couldn't grip the sides to get out. Little did I know that this would soon be the theme for the next 6 days. It started off so innocent but then turned into wondering when the next little, fast, amazing jumper would turn up.

They would show up and someone would scream and I would grab a pot and a lid (yes the tool of champions) to try and catch them. At first it was "fun" but then it wasn't. I would have to chase them into the bathroom, as that was the only place it seemed as if they couldn't get out. I learned later that they could get into the cupboards.
I ended up catching 9 and releasing them outside. It got to the point where I said to Michelle, "If they crawl up in the window and look at me mockingly then we will know that we are doomed."
Now look at the two pictures below.

This was the little guy that instead of getting in the pot decided to crawl into the cupboard in the bathroom. We left and I forgot to close the toilet.......he ended up being removed and not relocated.
If you look closely you can see this little guy. Our kids named each one and his name was "Sitter". He would sit on the guitar case in the corner and every so often climb down and then me chasing him would ensue. This happened 3-4 times with him getting in a couch, almost going out the front door (my wife's skills of catching rodents isn't the best :) ), and then ending up in the fireplace. At this point it was Sunday night and I was done catching and was moving on to setting mousetraps. This one made his last attempt and went to the fireplace where I was able to kind of trap him. Michelle had to help and I went after him with the poker......yes I was done. He realized he was trapped and his only way out was crawling up the screen. While he was doing this I was kneeling down and realized he was going to jump and that was going to be directly at my face. I lunged backwards dropping the screen, he flew through the air and with amazing luck landed in the pot I was using to catch them. Michelle then slammed the brooms down on top until I could get the lid on. This made up for her lack of skill earlier. The last picture below was my knee that was skinned in the melee that happened.

I moved many pieces of furniture and plugged many holes with steel wool in hopes of them not coming back in.......nothing worked.

The final straw was the last morning while I was lying in bed and I felt something go across my pillow and hair. I jumped up and sure enough there was a little guy sitting on my pillow......MY PILLOW! I was done. I told Michelle to get up as we were leaving. I of course went downstairs and got the pot and lid and came up and trapped the little son of a bitch. I was D O N E!
Memories.....right?
